Halloween -- Trick or Treat?

I've long been meaning to write however, I just started my new home-based job so I am reading a lot of modules and training materials to better equip me to face the challenges ahead.

September will be over in a couple of minutes [maybe it will be over even before I publish this post]. As early as the first week of this month, as I was doing my usual mall rounds [ha!] I've seen the usual Halloween stuff. Ah, these retail stores are gearing up for the Halloween as early as September (?) I though, do we really celebrate Halloween as they do in other countries? I'm not talking about the visiting of the departed dearly beloveds armed with flowers, candles and what-have-yous. I am referring to the commercialized aspect of Halloween -- attending costume parties here and a li'l of trick-and-treat there, you get my drift? Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against going to parties and dressing up as what - a vampire? LOL. fairies, princess, witch, ghouls and sometimes even superheroes. In fact, back then, we will always dress up and have a family reunion with a Halloween theme!

I remember, as a child I always ended up with the wicked witch costume, while I love the black polish and the goth make-up [not to mention, I can easily get away with my antsy and bratty attitude], as a kid I would like to experience dressing up as a dainty, li'l princess or fairy! But I've come to terms with the idea that I may not be too dainty to be that all sugar-y sweet character/s! Ah, bitterness sucks! :P

Nowadays Halloween is highly commercialized and overrated! It would be nice if we spend this season with friends and family [with our departed loved ones] to party  to remember them or to just simply pray for the repose of their souls instead to partying with some random colleagues who are just really backstabbing strangers!

Anyhoo, below are the displays and other Halloween stuff of some famous malls.

The usual 'hideous' masks

Masks with feather
Below is a photo of li'l witches from last year's Halloween party.

Ah! I remember my childhood costume! lol.

With this, I wish you all a spooky Halloween! ^_^

[Event] Manila Sound at Resorts World Manila

Resorts World Manila has been creating a buzz lately, though it's not that surprising as it is one of the most luxurious chains of hotels in the world. It is a sister company of Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore and Resorts World Genting in Malaysia. It is a new luxury casino resort located in Newport City, across Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3. This resort is said to be a joint venture between AGI and Star Cruises.*

RWM is inviting everyone to get groovy and catch the Manila Sound Project at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. Go disco-dancing to the music of Hagibis, Hotdog and VST& Co. on September 25, 2010 at 7:30 PM.

Tickets start at P1,000. Call 836-3333 for more information or visit any TicketNet Outlet.  Poster after the jump.

If you are asking what or who Manila Sound is, well, I did a li'l research for you guys. So read on..

Manila Sound is a musical genre based in the Philippines that began in late 1960s and flourished in the early to mid 1970s. This was popularized by a pop rock band called Hotdog with their hits, "Ikaw Ang Miss Universe Ng Buhay Ko", "'Manila'" and "Beh Buti Nga", it was characterized by catchy melodic phrases. It is said to characterize the disco fever in the Philippines during that time.  It also ushered a procession of calculated radio hits by groups such as Cinderella, VST & Co., Apolinario Mabini Hiking Society, Florante, Rico J. Puno and Hagibis, among others.*

Do you love OPM disco music too? Drop by the event and groove to the beat.

Akira Kurosawa Film Fest

I have always been a fan of stage plays and film festivals featuring international artists/directors and even those local indie films (they are called such because they are created by independent film makers, not sensationalized by local network giants) that are usually not given prime tube ad spot. Those that doesn't have the latest 'it boy/girl' in their cast. Those that 'flop' in our local film industry but are given due recognition by international entertainment tycoons. Ah, the ironies in life.

Anyhoo, I am not here to discuss and unravel details and difference of mainstream films and those that are 'indie'. I would like to share that there will be a Kurosawa Film Festival running from September 15 to 19, 2010 at the CCP Dream Theater. Screenings are open to the public and free of charge.

On My Side Table: Queen of the Damned

Long before Twilight even exist, there is already the Vampire Chronicles and before we have Stephenie Meyer, Anne Rice already gave us bits and pieces about vampires and their world.

I remember watching Interview with the Vampire starring Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Kirsten Dunst. As a child, I have always been fascinated by the mysteries of vampires and the underworld (I really don't like our local horror stories -- mostly because, local aswangs or manananggals are ugly and really scary, while their international counterpart, the vampires and the famed Count Dracula appears to be really noble and handsome). As Edward says, everything about them is beautiful to their prey.

I have yet to read Queen of the Damned and I guess I haven't seen the movie either (don't worry, I know the lead star! ;p)

Bear with my watermark, 'tis my first time using photoshop CS5, thank you!
*Anne Rice was born Howard Allen O'Brien on October 4, 1941and is a best-selling American author of gothic, erotic and religious-themed books from New Orleans, Louisiana. She was married to poet nd painter, Stan Rice for 41 years until his death from cancer in 2002. Her books have sold nearly 100 million copies, making her one of the most widely read authors in modern history.

Of Nicholas Sparks and Miley Cyrus (The Last Song Movie)

I have always been a fan of Nicholas Sparks. If I want a good cry, I'll read his books. It's not that his books are one-of-a-kind and 100% extraordinaire, but there's something extraordinary on how he delivers those ordinary stories, you get my drift?  His novels are truly heart-wrenching and a tear-jerker.

A Walk to Remember, The Notebook, Nights in Rodanthe, A Bend in the Road (though it doesn't have a film adaptation yet) Dear John -- Name it, I've read it and watched it! I may not like the interpretation of the movie but I have always liked the book.  I have been a couch potato lately; I've watched almost all the new movies that have been released. I then remembered that I haven't watched the movie version of Nicholas Sparks'  The Last Song (and haven't read it either!) During its launch, when the movie have been creating it's buzz, I wasn't at all excited to watch it primarily because of my negative bias the lead star is Miley Cyrus and I'm not a fan, thank you very much. So what made me decide to watch it now? Boredom I may say and curiosity if I may add!

Movie poster of The Last Song
It was awkward watching Cyrus act (not that I have ever seen her perform or sing) and looking at her has not been easy on my eyes. Sure she may have her fair share of fans as a singer, but as an actor, she is rather stiff. The upside is the acting of Greg Kinnear who is quite moving as the ailing father (Steve Miller). There are touching moments within the Miller family drama, but then you snap out of it and fear that Miley Cyrus might belt out a song, I know I was.

The movie's official trailer

The Plot. It revolves around the teenage daughter, Veronica Miller whose life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Tybee Island, Georgia. Three years and rebellion schemes later, she remains angry and alienated from her parents, especially her father ... until her mother decides it would be in everyone's best interest if she spent the summer on the the island with him and her brother. The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story about love in its myriad forms. It's also about heartbreak, healing, secrets, salvation and second chances.

This film is directed by Julie Anne Robinson.

Let's Party Like the 1980s

I always wonder what was 1980's like. I was born in mid 80's but was not old enough to have a decent experience of this era. All I can remember is the humongous shoulder pads and real big wigs 'do. This is also the era of the baby boomers (methinks!) and the decade with a tremendous population growth.

1980's Hair Styles. This is the glorious era for bangs (as in a full bangs) and teased-hairs.

Shoulder pads. This trend is re-emerging, but still I wouldn't be caught dead wearing it (may pait! haha)
2010 Collection
1980's shoulder pads

Princess of Wales. I remember vaguely that Princess Diana is the Fashion Icon. High-necked frilly ruffled blouses, pearls, floral skirts, romantic ball gowns & tweed suits emerged in the fashion scene.

people mourned at her sudden death during the car crash in Paris in 1997

Music Videos. We grooved into Michael Jackson's and Madonna's music. Who would forget Duran-Duran, Prince, Queen and metal bands such as Guns N Roses and Bon Jovi? You probably tried to do the 'moonwalk dance', yes? And loved the Beatles' and John Lennon too!

E.T. the Extra-terrestrial was such a big hit that your childhood wouldn't be complete if you haven't watched it yet. Star Wars wowed the crowd as well as Batman and a personal favorite, "Who'd you gonna call?", Ghostbusters!

Methinks, the '80s is such a colorful era for the entertainment and fashion industry and became pivotal in shaping the said industries today.

Moving on, I would love to relive that era even through this musical play coming on October. I know that The Wedding Singer is a 90's movie, but hey look at those enormous shoulder pads and humongous big hair. Then, again the theme of the musical is "Let's Party Like it's 1985"

Poster and details after the jump.

Sunday, October 23 - November 17, 2010 at the Meralco Theater

I love musical plays (well, I love plays per se) and since I wasn't able to watch Cats nor Legally Blonde, as early as now I will be reserving my tickets to this play!

What do you guys think of the 80's? What do you remember? Did you like The Wedding Singer, the movie?

Of Blog Contests, Events and Sulitizen

I am blogging as it is cathartic - it gives me a feeling of peace and freedom. It brings me joy everytime the article I am typing gets to the stage wherein I actually hit the publish button -- oftentimes though, laziness is getting the best of me.. or could it be what they call writer's block?? Personally, I'm not sure, all I know is an idea will hit me and then I find my fingers caressing the keyboard and pffft! Before I knew it, I deleted everything I typed in because I am not sure what angle to write, what to include, how to end it, (insert my long list of excuses. LOL) . And then I would remember, I write as it is better to have an emotional outburst in my uncomplaining notebook and my sturdy keyboard than stab others with sharp nabbing words!

Oh well, enough about it. Let's talk about other blogs.

Whenever I read blogs I always see contests left and right (I know it's a way to maintain readers/audience) and I always wonder why they buy all those pretty stuff just to give away to strangers readers, I must have been hiding under a rock! Now, I learned that they have sponsors (ohh lucky them!) that sends them those cute li'l give-aways (not before hand-picking what items to keep for themselves, I know. *wink*) I am never lucky at raffle draws before and I don't know why that will change, but I have tried to enter a few of those contests - I lose more, than I win. Oh well, but I will still try my luck one last time.. oh! but before I do, I almost forgot.. I wasn't able to attend the Blogger's Fiesta last night at The Fort! (boo!) I heard it was fun and engaging.

Moving on, though I wasn't able to personally meet & greet those bloggers, I was still able to meet a few friends through friends of friends and through the social networks (how else?!). One of them is Mhel , and I am trying to support her on her entry in one of Sulit.com's contests that has something to do with a definition of a Sulitizen (a term coined from Sulit and citizen, to mean a certified member of their website). Details after the jump.

Social Networking Sites Makes Our World Smaller

Seems like high school days are so long ago.  We already went to different colleges and universities. Some graduated, others still pursuing their degrees, there are those who's working away from home and a few who migrated to different countries.

I'm grateful for social networking sites like Facebook®, it connects each and everyone of us. It helps make our world smaller. It became witness to the different events in our lives , it cheer with us on our success and comforts us in times of sadness- but most of all it became a tool to share those events to friends and families even if we are miles and oceans apart. In this day and age, distance is no longer a hindrance and never would be an excuse to not be updated on the whats, whos and wheres of people dear to us (even those who are not so dear to us! Hihi)

This being the case, I have stumbled upon this upcoming event of one of my highschool classmates' life. Her exhibit - featuring a collection of her creations.

Poster after the jump.

opens this coming Friday, 16 July 2010 at Penguin Cafe & Gallery

Reignite Your Romance with Work

Nowadays, I think I’m running on autopilot and I think I’m running towards self-destruction! Is it really dead-end for my current situation? Is it just burnout or is my irregular working hours already activating my stress hormones and thus this unexplainable crappy feeling?!
I am spending so much time on the internet as it makes me forget everything (just what shopping does too!) and makes me enter a pseudo-world in cyberspace.
I stumbled upon this great article and as I was reading it, it gave me some spark of hope in this seemingly bleak world I’m currently trapped. I would like to share these tips on how to re-ignite your romance with your work – or consider courting another one. Hopefully this will help you feel better, as it does for me.
I will try following a few of these steps and mayhaps, I will determine what path I should take.
Read on the article after the jump.
--------------
Reignite Your Romance with Work

If feelings about your career tend more toward disenchantment, the good news is that there are several steps you can take to change that, from improving your current situation to exploring other career options.
·  Consider the 80/20 Ratio: Curt Rosengren, career columnist for US News & World Report, says, “If you love what you’re doing 80 percent of the time, you’re doing pretty well. The energy you get from the work you do probably far outweighs the drain of the things you don’t like.” Stay focused on the pleasure you derive 80 percent of the time.

·  Conduct a Research Project: What about your current situation doesn’t work for you? What does? How can you respond differently? If you feel unappreciated or ignored, find appropriate ways to become more visible. Make sure your opinion is known by seeking opportunities to speak up. Or if you’re stuck on autopilot, request more responsibility to further develop your skills. Exploration can energize your routine and help adjust your attitude.

·  Complete a Self-Assessment to Discover Your Passion: Heather Hollick, founder of coaching firm Rizers in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, encourages people to find “their sweet spot” -- the intersection of what you enjoy doing, what you’re good at and what brings value in the marketplace. Identifying this overlap is crucial to loving your career.

·  Is Your Boss the Problem?: Lastly, if you don't get along with your boss or coworkers, limit interactions with them as much as possible. Focus on your performance and results.

If these strategies still leave you restless, it may be time to begin looking for a new job.
Remember, “it’s your career -- you own it and live with it, so make sure you love it,” says Hollick.

Negativity Surrounds Me

Finally!

Months (or was it years?) of reasoning out why I need a netbook came to a halt last week, as we've decided to get me a pretty nifty li'l lappie (and it's a dainty pink!)

I was so excited as I think of the things I'll be writing and photos I will be posting. I keep smiling to myself as I draft and hang on to the train of thoughts which I think were good for my blogging articles. But, alas! more than a week had passed and all I did was surf surf and surf the net for online shopping, social networks, games, live streaming, download movies and none of the writing or blogging stuff!

Darn! I am too lazy to even type a single article, much more to keep a personal blogging site! (just a waste of cyber space) I think I am kidding myself when I said that I will be using online blogging as a therapeutic way to release all tensions and negativity that is all around me. The real therapy I have in mind is shopping! Yes, retail therapy! As it has always been -- it doesn't matter if it's in the mall or in a virtual space -- as long as I get to buy stuff I like! I know this is bad for my wallet's health but for the time being, this is my way of calming, healing and getting rid of the bad energies that is so strongly hovering above me and is waiting for me to breakdown before it eats me up alive!

In time, I will be able to keep my shopaholic tendencies to a minimum, but for now, let me have my own therapeutic way of dealing  and coping in  this big bad world.

This is what illustrates how I am feeling the past few days.. gloomy, dark, lost, however you might want to interpret the photo.. it's such a creepy feeling that I need to dislodge, and fast!!

PS: I sure am sorry for all this negativity I am releasing in the cyber world. Bear with me for a li'l while. I am hoping to be a li'l cheery and bright SOON..

Bitten by a Love Bug!

love is just a word... until someone you meet makes you understand it's true meaning

The quote above makes perfect sense! I dunno but perhaps I've been bitten by a love bug as well (wahaha.. coming from me.. it's hard to believe, right?!)

At this very moment, words are just not enough to describe my feelings, my emotions.. But maybe.. just maybe.. for a change I am elated and I am giving love a second chance and I am letting a person into my life.

Hey! Welcome to my Life!

post should be published last November 9, 2007

Nostalgia

I've been browsing my Friendster Blog (to re-read the entries I've typed in and also because I am feeling kinda senti!) when I chanced upon this entry last December '06.. I still feel this way even if it's more than a year since graduating from college.

Read on..
WARNING: Not for the faint hearted-- too serious to handle!!

Gosh, i can't believe i'm working now... it's like only yesterday that we are loitering around PLM's campus and discussing our projects or creating a plot or even 'squeezing ourselves like a lemon' just so we could produce an answer to the brain-draining and nose-bleeding crisis of pr.. hehehe..

but now, i'm here in an airconditioned room, in front of a computer and should be sending emails to customers, but is actually typing this article for a personal blog. teehee ^_^

i miss all the times wherein we would just sit under one shed or on the grass and looking (and scrutinizing) everything and everyone we see.. sharing stories, giggling and just having fun... as if nothing's the matter.. and we're not beating every subject's deadlines!!

it's just now that it's sinking into my system that college life's over.. the virtual reality had passed, i'm now playing in the real game called -- LIFE!

now i'm telling myself, in college when we fail an exam or recitation, we can always make it up next time. but in this reality game, we can never have the same exact scenario, there'll be no next time-- we can only have experiences gained and lessons learned..

but no matter what, i know i have my family and friends to help me hurdle the obstacles that'll come my way, who'll slow me down when i'm running too fast and who'll pick me up when i stumble..

"may ganung factor??.. nagdadrama!!"

This entry transcends me through time! I know, we (my closest college friends) make it a point to
meet every weekends or at least twice a month.. but still it's very different from what it used to
be way back in college -where we have everyday of our college life to talk, laugh at goof around- today, we don't have the luxury of time to do that anymore (and i guess, there never will be) that is why aside from Friday night gimiks we also plan (a very looooong planning indeed- which entails, synchronizing scheds, scheduling office leaves and other what tos?!) a long weekend trip to a place away from the rat-race in Makati (Lheng & I) or Manila (Pau & Hapi), in hope that we can find solace and seek comfort from each other -while ranting our frustrations and sharing our goals and being excited and glad on each other's achievements and accomplishments.

Gosh, I am just so freakin' melodramatic.. I think I can write a tear-jerking script- but then again maybe not!

PS: I just came from our weekend getaway at Hapi's place in Antipolo. We actually have the gal to swim and defy typhoon Egay's wrath.

*No Egay! you can't stop us! Rain or shine if our mind is set in doing it.. do it we will! haha... -yeah, we're that stubborn.. or atleast I think, we are ;)

It's fun and we've got tons and tons of photos.. ÜÜÜ

Hows your day going? Are you missing someone dear too?

hugs n kisses

Fun-filled Day

We always make it a point to dine out every Friday of the week, just to personally fill in on each other's life -work and love (or the lack of it) or allot an entire day for each other. It's not just tetê-a-tetê that we do.. We just loove to eat, and eat we do! We're just soo damn lucky it doesn't show!

be green with envy .. LOL

The rundown: Had luch at our fave (at least mine) pizza parlour, Carlo's Pizza- where I soo love the non-greasy-melt-in-your-mouth pizza; then talked and throw jokes on each other; then watched Ratatoullie while   rolling our eyes over the uncivilized being who can't help but repeat to his companion what is being shown on the big screen! Duh?! I wonder if he woorks for a radio station (probably a dubber - ay nagluluto yung daga, hahaha nabunggo yung bike) hallaer! it's like we can see it naman?! Some people are just so whatevah!!

Then, had a guilty pleasure dessert at Chocolat. I had the sinfully delicious Bailey's Cake

AHA Hapi! Sira ang South Beach diet! ahehe Lagot kami kay Abba!

Hapi: Guilty!

PS: I loove the animation and the story even if it's just so gross seing a cooking-rat-infested-four star-restaurant.

Ratata,

It's Sunday Night!

It's Sunday night.. not much a busy day for me! I am browsing the net for condos/apartments for rent near Commonwealth, QC [preferable 2 bedrooms- and located in a very secure subdivision or neighborhood (remember my experience in Baguio - well, probably not since I really am not posting blogs in this page yet when that incident occured- we were robbed while we were sleeping.. geez scary! dont wanna remember that incident!]

Oh well, we we're able to find one hat's within close proximity to the 'new' office building, 2 bedrooms and cheap (just 7,500!)But alas! when I tried the contact infos posted on the web - both (landline and mobile #) we're not working!! Well, too bad!

And now.. we're still looking for a flat!

*********
Just wanna share...

earlier, I received a text message from arvee saying that she loaded her phone with prepaid credits so she can text me (awww sweetness!) and also that she is missing us (sob, sob) since she cant go with us every (or at least one Friday per month) at the staple rendezvous, since she havent got a Friday off yet.
I've also asked her about her mom, good thing she told me that she's coping (sometimes she feels depressed but just dont wanna let the others know -one tough momma!)
Miss you too bebi!! Hope you can join us soon (the sooner the better!)

MWAH!

On a lighter note, Lheng and I talked over YM regarding the CineManila (with Director Quentin Tarantino of Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill among other films tucked under his belt) and our plan on July 21 to go to SM Manila and catch the free screening of i-Witness' docus (being documentary fanatics and also for the love of Howie - we loove the works of Howie Severino, especially my friend, Lheng who got her chance when he agreed for an interview with her!

Anyway, we got a date at SM Manila on July 21 after lunch. People if you wanna catch this event just drop by on the said place and date. This will be worth your time! Ü

Anywei, I realized that I must refrain from being overly accommodating to this person since I think as the day progress I'm starting to fall - wrong reasons, wrong time.. but the right person (i guess?!) I tried to ignore the feeling to the point that I almost bottled up my emotions and reactions towards the situation.. it's not at all healthy .. im tired and it is leaving a searing pain and it troubles my heart (lol) Hey! don't wanna be the third wheel here! So guess I'll try straighten this up and hopefully gain some control over my emotions -AGAIN-

Figure it out!!

I'm actually starting this new blog (hope I can manage to keep it updated though!)
